Stainless Steel Wire for Woven Mesh: Holding Aperture to Tolerance A filter cloth is usually ordered by aperture, but what the weaving mill actually controls is wire diameter, warp tension and weft density. Those three values set the opening, and wire diameter is the one supplied from outside the mill. On a plain square weave the open area follows the ratio of aperture to pitch, so a small drift in wire diameter moves the open area by a measurable amount across a full roll.
