AISI 430 Stainless Scourer Wire for Fine Forming, 0.15-12 mm
Scourer wire is bought on diameter consistency rather than on a headline property. A needle on a scourer knitting machine accepts a narrow band, and a spool that drifts forces the operator to reset tension mid-run. AISI 430, a ferritic grade with 16-18% Cr and no nickel, is the standard choice for this application.
The wire is supplied annealed and soft at 450-650 N/mm2, bright or soap-coated, from 0.15 mm to 12 mm. Diameter control matters most at the fine end, 0.15-0.8 mm, where scourer pads are knitted; the coarser sizes cover brush and pad substrates.
430 is magnetic and nickel-free. It suits indoor cleaning products, abrasive pads and magnetic separation. For chloride-rich or marine exposure, 316L is the correct grade and is quoted separately.

Applications
Scourer pad knitting
Flat and circular knitting of stainless scourer pads. The diameter band is held tight so needles do not jam and pad weight per square metre stays inside the target.
Cleaning brushes and abrasive pads
Brush tufts and non-woven pad reinforcement, where a soft annealed wire bends into the tuft without spring-back.
Fine forming and magnetic filtration
Small clips, hooks and filter media. The ferritic structure allows the finished part to be handled or separated magnetically.
Product Advantages
- Diameter band held at fine sizes - inline gauging plus controlled rewinding tension; the 0.15-0.8 mm range is where needle clearance is smallest.
- Low needle load - annealed at 450-650 N/mm2, soft enough for high-speed knitting without work-hardening at the guides.
- Nickel-free ferritic structure - no nickel addition, and the finished pad can be separated magnetically.
- Surface matched to the process - bright for visible pads, soap-coated where the wire runs through guides and dies.
- Corrosion scope stated honestly - domestic and indoor cleaning only; chloride-rich or marine service needs 316L.
- Traceable lots - heat number on each spool label with mill test report 3.1 on request.
Quality Control
Incoming rod is verified for grade by chemical or PMI check before drawing. Die wear is monitored on the drawing line, diameter is measured inline, and tensile and elongation are tested per heat per ISO 6892-1. Spool build, wire surface and packing are inspected before the carton is closed.
Selection and Ordering Notes
- State the knitting machine type and needle gauge; fine scourer pads usually run 0.15-0.5 mm.
- Confirm the tensile band, since a softer band improves needle life on tight radii.
- Choose the surface: bright for visible pads, soap-coated for guide lubrication.
- Give the spool weight and inner bore your pay-off accepts.
- Provide sizes and annual volume for a tolerance and packing review.
