6.5mm 304 Stainless Steel EPQ Wire for Heavy Wire Forming
At 6.5mm, wire forming loads and spring-back are significantly higher than for fine wire, so the wire must combine controlled diameter, annealed ductility and a clean surface. This EPQ (extra press quality) wire is produced in 304 grade, with the full production range covering 0.15-12mm.
EPQ grade is specified for parts that undergo pressing, bending or multi-stage forming where internal defects and surface laps would develop into cracks. The wire is cold drawn and annealed to a soft condition, then bright finished for visible or welded parts.

Applications
Heavy Wire Racks and Baskets
Load-bearing racks, baskets and frames where a 6.5mm section provides stiffness and welded joints remain clean.
Large-Radius Wire Forming
Bending and forming with larger radii, where annealed ductility reduces cracking risk at the bend.
Welded Wire Frames
Frames and supports produced by resistance welding, requiring consistent diameter and a clean, low-contamination surface.
Cold Heading Preforms
Cut and preformed wire sections for fasteners and formed parts subject to press loads.
Product Advantages
- EPQ grade for forming - produced to reduce internal and surface defects that would initiate cracks in pressed or bent parts.
- Annealed soft condition - supports larger deformation at 6.5mm without the cracking risk of harder tempers.
- Controlled diameter tolerance - diameter and tolerance are inspected per batch, supporting stable feeding and consistent bend geometry.
- Bright welded-friendly surface - a clean surface reduces contamination at weld joints and suits visible parts.
- Full range 0.15-12mm - heavy forming wire and fine wire from one qualified source, with test reports per shipment.
Quality Control
Each batch is inspected for material grade, diameter, dimensional tolerance, surface condition, mechanical properties and packing against the agreed specification. Test reports are available per shipment.
Quick Selection Guide
- Confirm the forming process (bending / welding / heading)
- Confirm the wire diameter (this page: 6.5mm; range 0.15-12mm)
- Select the grade (304 general; 316/316L for corrosive conditions)
- Specify the temper (annealed soft for heavy forming)
- Confirm coil weight and packing for your equipment
