3mm 430 Annealed Stainless Steel Wire for Formed Frames
430 is a ferritic stainless grade: 16-18% chromium, no nickel, magnetic, and cheaper than 304 at the same diameter. For formed frames on dry-service products it does the job. What it will not do is hold up in chloride or marine exposure, or take the same weld ductility as an austenitic grade.
This wire is supplied annealed and soft at 450-650 N/mm2, with a featured diameter of 3 mm inside a 0.15-12 mm range. The coarser sizes are used for frame wire that has to hold shape, where stiffness comes from diameter and geometry rather than from a hard temper.
Grade selection is stated plainly: 430 for dry indoor frames and magnetic parts; 304 or 316L where moisture, detergent or chlorides are present.

Applications
Dry-service frames and racks
Wire frames, shelf edges and grilles for indoor products where the surface stays dry and no chlorides are present.
Magnetic parts and separation
Components that have to be picked, held or separated magnetically, where an austenitic grade would not respond.
Coarse formed components
3-12 mm wire bent into supports, hangers and brackets, where a 450-650 N/mm2 annealed temper still forms cleanly in a press brake or bender.
Product Advantages
- Nickel-free cost structure - ferritic 430 avoids the nickel addition, which shows directly in the price at coarse diameters.
- Magnetic - responds to magnets, so parts can be handled and separated automatically.
- Annealed for coarse forming - 450-650 N/mm2 keeps 3-12 mm wire bendable without cracking at the outside of the bend.
- Full size range - 0.15-12 mm from one line, sharing one temper basis.
- Limits stated honestly - not recommended for chlorides, marine air or heavy detergent cycles, and weld ductility is lower than 304; 304 or 316L is quoted for those cases.
- Traceable lots - heat number on every coil label with mill test report 3.1 on request.
Quality Control
Rod grade is verified before drawing, diameter is measured inline with end-of-coil sampling, and tensile and elongation are tested per heat per ISO 6892-1. Surface is inspected for scratches and die lines, and coil build is checked before packing.
Selection and Ordering Notes
- Confirm the service environment: dry indoor use suits 430; moisture, detergent or chlorides call for 304 or 316L.
- State the forming method and bend radius for the coarse sizes.
- Mention any welding step, since 430 welds need different parameters from 304.
- Give coil weight and inner diameter for the pay-off.
- Provide sizes and annual volume for a tolerance and packing review.
Send the grade, diameter, forming method and service condition for technical confirmation and quotation.
