Smooth Surface Stainless Steel Wire for Sliding and Guide Contact
Where wire runs against a guide, a roller or another wire, surface condition decides friction and debris. Die lines, scratches and drawing marks create local contact points that wear the guide and shed particles into the process. A smooth drawn surface removes that variable.
This wire is drawn through polished dies and supplied bright drawn or bright annealed, annealed to 550-750 N/mm2, from 0.15 mm to 12 mm in 304 or 316L. Surface roughness can be measured on a sample and quoted per lot when the application requires a number rather than a visual standard.
It suits textile machinery guides, filtration frames, sliding contact parts and industrial assemblies where clean running matters more than high tensile.

Applications
Textile machinery guides
Guide wires and thread-contact parts where a smooth surface keeps friction low and avoids snagging fine yarn.
Filtration frames and screen support
Support wire and frame wire where a clean surface prevents media damage and residue build-up.
Sliding and roller contact parts
Wire running over sheaves, rollers and wear blocks, including soap-coated supply where dry friction is a concern.
Product Advantages
- Polished-die drawing - die condition is monitored through the run, which is what keeps the surface free of deep lines rather than dressing the wire afterwards.
- Roughness quantified when needed - a sample measurement can be attached to the lot instead of relying on a visual claim.
- Stable diameter for guides - inline gauging keeps the wire inside the guide clearance, reducing vibration and wear.
- Annealed temper - 550-750 N/mm2 for forming the wire into frames without cracking at the bends.
- Lubrication options - dry for clean processes, soap-coated where sliding contact needs a film.
- Grade choice stated honestly - 304 for general industrial air and water contact; 316L for chlorides or marine atmosphere.
Quality Control
Rod is checked for grade and surface defects before drawing. Diameter is measured inline, surface is inspected under standard light for die lines, scratches and tone variation, and tensile and elongation are tested per heat per ISO 6892-1. Coil build and packing are verified before dispatch.
Selection and Ordering Notes
- Describe the contact: what the wire rubs against, at what speed and pressure.
- State whether a roughness value is required, so a sample measurement can be planned.
- Choose dry or soap-coated supply according to the process.
- Give the bend radius for frame forming.
- Provide sizes and annual volume for a tolerance and packing review.
Send the grade, diameter, contact condition and surface requirement for technical confirmation and quotation.
