304 Stainless Steel Wire for Kitchenware: Dish Racks and Utensil Holders
Kitchenware wire lives in a harder environment than most hardware. Dish racks and utensil holders see warm water, alkaline detergent and food residue every day, then dry in humid air. The grade, the surface and the weld all decide whether the part stays bright for years or shows rust spots in the first season.
This wire is drawn from 304 (18% Cr / 8% Ni) rod and supplied annealed at 550-750 N/mm2 from 0.15 mm to 12 mm. The bright surface is smooth enough to wipe clean, and the annealed temper takes bending into rack frames without cracking at the corners.
Grade choice is stated up front: 304 for wet kitchenware and normal detergents; 316L where heavy chloride detergents or coastal humidity apply.

Applications
Dish racks and drainers
Frame wire and grid wire in 2-6 mm, bent into shape and welded. A soft annealed temper allows tight corner radii without surface cracking that would hold water.
Utensil holders and cutlery baskets
Fine mesh and formed frames in 0.15-2 mm where smooth surface and clean welds matter for daily washing.
Pot stands, trivets and hooks
Load-bearing wire parts where stiffness comes from geometry, not from a harder temper.
Product Advantages
- 304 for wet service - 18% Cr / 8% Ni austenitic structure handles daily detergent and humid drying; 430 is a dry-use grade and is not offered for dishwasher parts.
- Smooth surface for cleaning - bright finish without drawing marks that trap residue, so wiping is enough.
- Formable at the corners - 550-750 N/mm2 annealed temper for tight radii in rack frames.
- Weldable and polishable - welded joints take a polish without colour mismatch, which keeps a rack looking uniform.
- One diameter range - 0.15-12 mm covers frame wire and fine mesh in one order with one tensile basis.
- Traceable lots - heat number on every coil label with mill test report 3.1 on request.
Quality Control
Rod grade is verified before drawing. Diameter is measured inline and sampled at coil ends, tensile and elongation are tested per heat per ISO 6892-1, and surface is inspected under standard light for scratches, die lines and tone variation. Coil build and packing are checked before dispatch.
Selection and Ordering Notes
- State the service condition: hand wash, dishwasher, or coastal humidity, so the grade can be fixed first.
- Give the tightest bend radius in the frame; a narrower tensile band can be assigned.
- Confirm the welding method, as spot and TIG welds need different joint preparation.
- Specify the surface: plain bright for visible kitchenware, soap-coated where the wire is formed through dies.
- Provide sizes and annual volume for a tolerance and packing review.
