Detailed Specifications & Features

Annealed SUS304 Stainless Steel Wire for Forming, 0.15-12 mm

SUS304 (EN 1.4301) wire supplied in the annealed condition is chosen when a part has to be bent, coiled or woven after the wire arrives. Annealing removes the work-hardening left by drawing, so the wire deforms with a predictable force instead of cracking at the bend. This page sets out the measurable properties to agree on before ordering.

The featured size is 2.0 mm, and the same specification is produced from 0.15 mm to 12 mm. Tensile strength for the annealed range is 550-750 N/mm2, referenced to ASTM A580 and GB/T 4240, with tensile and elongation verified per heat number.

Surface can be bright annealed, bright drawn, or soap-coated. Bright suits visible parts; soap coating carries lubricant into dies and reduces galling on multi-stage forming.

Applications

Wire forming and bending

Hooks, rings, clips and bent brackets that need a tight radius. Annealed wire keeps elongation available at the bend, so radii from one wire diameter upward can be formed without edge cracking.

Weaving and mesh

Filter cloth, protective mesh and decorative weave in the finer diameters, where consistent tensile across the warp keeps mesh openings uniform.

Hardware and general fabrication

Cold-headed fasteners, welded frames and general hardware parts. The austenitic 18% Cr / 8% Ni structure welds and polishes without the hardening step needed on martensitic grades.

Product Advantages

  • Predictable forming force - tensile held at 550-750 N/mm2 and elongation checked per heat, so press settings do not need chasing between coils.
  • Soft temper for tight bends - annealing removes drawing work-hardening; suitable for radii at or above one wire diameter.
  • One diameter range - 0.15-12 mm from a single supplier limits the variance in tensile and surface that appears when sizes come from different mills.
  • Surface matched to the process - bright for visible parts, soap-coated for die lubrication, matte where secondary polishing follows.
  • Traceable lots - heat number on every coil label, with inspection report 3.1 per EN 10204 on request.
  • Corrosion behaviour stated honestly - 304 resists atmospheric and mild chemical exposure; for chloride-rich or marine service, 316 is the correct choice and can be quoted separately.

Quality Control

Incoming rod is checked for grade and surface before drawing. Diameter is measured inline and sampled at the coil ends. Tensile and elongation are tested per heat per ISO 6892-1, and results are attached to the coil label. Final inspection covers surface defects, coil build, and packing before the pallet is closed.

Selection and Ordering Notes

  1. State the forming process and minimum bend radius; a lower tensile band (550-620 N/mm2) can be assigned for very tight radii.
  2. Choose the surface: bright annealed for visible parts, soap-coated where the wire runs through dies.
  3. Give the coil weight and inner diameter your pay-off equipment accepts.
  4. Mention any downstream step such as welding or polishing, so lubricant and surface are selected accordingly.
  5. Confirm the sizes and annual volume for a tolerance and packing review.

Send the grade, diameter, tensile range and forming process for technical confirmation and quotation.
