Detailed Specifications & Features

201 Stainless Steel Spring Wire for Formed Springs

Product Introduction

TOPONE 201 stainless steel spring wire is designed for spring forming, wire forming and other applications requiring stainless steel wire with a defined diameter and suitable mechanical condition.

The reference specification is 0.5mm 201 stainless steel wire. TOPONE stainless steel wire can be supplied in diameters from 0.15–12mm, with the final diameter, mechanical condition and surface finish selected according to the spring design and forming process.

AISI 201 is a Cr-Ni-Mn austenitic stainless steel grade. It can be considered for spring and formed-wire applications where the required corrosion resistance and mechanical properties are compatible with the working environment.

For spring manufacturing, wire diameter should be evaluated together with tensile strength, hardness, forming method, coil geometry and service conditions rather than selected by material grade alone.

201 Stainless Steel Spring Wire for Spring Manufacturing

Spring performance depends on several wire parameters rather than diameter alone.

For a 201 stainless steel spring wire, manufacturers should consider:

  • Wire diameter and dimensional tolerance

  • Tensile strength and hardness

  • Surface condition

  • Spring forming method

  • Required spring geometry

  • Operating temperature and corrosion environment

  • Subsequent heat treatment or finishing process, if applicable

The 0.5mm reference specification is suitable for discussing small-diameter spring wire applications. For other spring sizes, TOPONE can provide stainless steel wire within the 0.15–12mm diameter range according to the required grade and mechanical condition.

Surface Selection

Bright Surface

Bright stainless steel wire provides a clean metallic surface and can be used where surface appearance and controlled wire condition are important.

Matte Surface

Matte wire can be considered for applications where a non-bright surface condition is preferred or where the surface specification is determined by the subsequent forming process.

Soap Coated Surface

Soap-coated stainless steel wire provides a lubricated surface condition that can be considered for wire forming processes where friction management between the wire and tooling is required.

The correct surface should be selected based on the forming equipment, tooling, lubrication method and final spring requirements.

Applications

Compression Springs

201 stainless steel wire can be considered for selected compression spring applications when the required corrosion resistance and mechanical properties are suitable for the service environment.

Torsion Springs

The wire can be used for torsion spring production where the required wire diameter and forming condition match the spring design.

Extension Springs

For extension springs, wire selection should consider the spring geometry, forming process and required mechanical condition.

Wire Forms

The material can also be used for formed-wire components, clips and other metal parts where the specified 201 stainless steel grade is appropriate.

Product Advantages

Controlled Diameter Range

TOPONE provides stainless steel wire from 0.15–12mm, covering fine wire through larger wire sizes for different spring and wire-forming requirements.

Material Specification

The product is based on AISI 201 stainless steel, allowing buyers to define the material grade clearly when preparing a spring-wire purchasing specification.

Multiple Surface Conditions

Bright, matte and soap-coated options can be evaluated according to the forming process and final application requirements.

Applicable Industry Standards

Specifications can be defined according to AISI, ASTM, DIN, JIS or GB, depending on the customer's technical requirements.

Production for Spring Applications

The wire can be specified according to diameter, material grade, mechanical condition and surface condition, providing a clearer basis for spring manufacturers to match wire with their forming process.

How to Select 201 Stainless Steel Spring Wire

1. Confirm the Wire Diameter

The wire diameter directly affects spring geometry and forming parameters. The required diameter should therefore be defined according to the spring drawing or finished-product specification.

2. Confirm the Mechanical Condition

Tensile strength and hardness should be confirmed according to the forming process and required spring performance.

3. Check the Working Environment

201 stainless steel should be evaluated according to the actual exposure to moisture, chemicals, salt and temperature. For more demanding corrosion environments, another stainless steel grade may be more appropriate.

4. Select the Surface Condition

Bright, matte or soap-coated wire should be selected according to tooling, lubrication and final surface requirements.

5. Define the Applicable Standard

The purchasing specification should identify the required material and dimensional standard, such as ASTM, DIN, JIS or GB, where applicable.

FAQ

What diameter of 201 stainless steel spring wire is available?

TOPONE stainless steel wire can be supplied in diameters from 0.15–12mm. The exact diameter and mechanical condition should be confirmed according to the spring specification.

Is 0.5mm 201 stainless steel wire suitable for springs?

0.5mm is a fine wire diameter that can be considered for small springs and formed-wire components. Final suitability depends on the spring design, mechanical requirements and operating environment.

What spring types can use stainless steel wire?

Common applications include compression springs, extension springs, torsion springs and various formed-wire components. The appropriate grade and mechanical condition should be selected according to the application.

What surface conditions are available?

Depending on the specification, stainless steel wire can be supplied with bright, matte or soap-coated surfaces.

Is 201 stainless steel suitable for corrosive environments?

201 stainless steel can be used in applications with moderate environmental requirements, but the actual corrosion conditions should be evaluated before material selection. More demanding environments may require a different stainless steel grade.
